It’s been a long time since grad school and I got the concepts mixed up. The energy goes into potential at the expense of kinetic. v^2/r = alpha/r^2, therefore v=Sqrt(alpha/r) and velocity scales as r^(-1/2). I will amend the article.

Objects in higher orbits have lower orbital speeds. The moon orbits the earth at a pokey 1km/sec or so.
